Johanna Lacy Solicitors

Johanna is originally from Kells, Co Meath and comes from a family steeped in Legal Practice. Her great grand uncle, Nathaniel Lacy, set up the family practice in Kells in 1896 and the firm has been passed from generation to generation since. Now at the helm of the Kells office is Johanna’s brother, Nathaniel Lacy, having taken over from their father, John Lacy, in 2012.

Johanna set up in sole practice in 2009, originally as a branch office of the family firm in Kells, and in April 2014 re-launched under the firm name of Johanna Lacy Solicitors. She continues to liaise closely with the Kells office in sharing legal know-how and discussing contentious issues to afford her clients the legal expertise from both her own firm and from the solicitors in the Kells office. Her sister, Rebecca Lacy, is a barrister and provides personal and efficient court appearances and advice for Johanna’s clients.

Johanna trained with one of Dublin’s largest firms, Mathesons and then moved to another big Dublin firm, Byrne Wallace (practising mainly in the Commercial Departments of both firms) before moving back to Kells to assist her father from 2001 – 2004 (practising primarily in defence litigation). She then moved to Clonmel with her husband, Alan Downey who hails from Ballyneale, Carrick-on-Suir and worked with 2 firms in Clonmel gaining invaluable expertise in general practice in particular residential and commercial conveyancing and plaintiff litigation(obtaining a Certificate in Commercial Conveyancing and Litigation).

Since setting up in practice, Johanna represents clients both locally and through the South-East and nationwide, in all areas of law. Her personal, practical, no-nonsense approach is valued by clients. She ensures that clients are continually updated on the progress of their matters and ensures clients are updated regularly on the costs of their cases, providing value for money advice. She has gained a reputation as an expert Personal Injury Practitioner and is delighted to meet new clients who have been involved in road traffic accidents, work place accidents or slip and fall accidents. She acts for clients in all property transactions as well as employment matters and any contentious matters.
