Denis I Finn Solicitors

In August 1973, a fresh-faced, 21 years old collected his law degree from UCD; Denis Finn had his sights set on building a law practice. What greeted him was a country deep in recession, little industry and scant business.

Denis’ philosophy was simple, “understanding client needs and surpassing their expectations”. Through hard work and adherence to his own philosophy, he set up his own practice and soon attracted one of the countries leading financial institutions, Bank of Ireland Finance.

In 1980, Deirdre McDermott teamed with Denis to create a link in the unbroken chain of partnership that today forms part of Denis I. Finn Solicitors. Also launched were a set of unique firm principles, which included, selecting only the finest legal talent, always delivering on advice and service excellence in everything the firm does. More than four decades later, these principles still define Denis I. Finn.

It took time to select further partners. Michael Nuding and Catherine O’Driscoll’s appointment was soon followed by a move to new offices at 5 Lower Hatch Street where the firm stands over 5 floors in a Georgian Building previously the residence of the famous artist Patrick Swift.

The firm’s goal is to be the best, not the biggest. It has continued to grow and now acts for all of the countries lending institutions and has an ever growing private and commercial client base. The partners have also been joined by a number of solicitors and associates who now form part of the firm’s story.

As Denis would say, the firm has now “surpassed his own expectations”, all made possible through hard work, a dedication to its founding principles and an unrelenting drive to achieve success for its clients – a mission today shared by all of its people
