People sometimes insist on pleading guilty to drink driving when they first appear in court. This is almost always a bad idea as there may be a legitimate defence open to you. This possibility -a valid defence- evaporates if you decide to plead guilty right away without at least testing the evidence. And that's the point: you need at least test the evidence. You'll have long enough afterwards to consider the consequences. There is no point appealing a disqualification from driving to the Circuit Court if you've already pleaded guilty to the matter in the District Court beforehand. It is not the case that exceeding the limit is sufficient to ground a conviction. It is also not the case that drinking and driving is, by itself, illegal. It is certainly not advisable but it is not strictly illegal. What is illegal is driving after having consumed so much alcohol so that you are impaired i.e. incapable of having proper control of a vehicle in a public place. Fundamentally, if Patrick thinks that your case is defensible he will tell you. If he thinks that it is not, he will also tell you. Ultimately, you will be in possession of all of the relevant information so that you can make an informed decision as to which approach to adopt. www.phoransolicitors.com drink driving solicitor dublin drink driving lawyer dublin motoring offence solicitor dublin should i get a solicitor for drink driving is it worth getting a solicitor for drink driving drink driving limit ireland 2021 drink driving technicalities ireland drink driving calculator can i have one drink and drive

One of the worst things you can do is to go into court and just plead guilty

Yes, that gets rid of the short-term anxiety of court

But then the doubts set in afterwards when you can relax, and now you’re disqualified

And you wonder to yourself maybe there was something there, maybe I should have checked that

The punishment for drink driving in Ireland is disqualification

That’s irrespective of your circumstances, your family circumstances, your work circumstances

While they may be taken into consideration, and they are, its mandatory

It is legal advice, but a lot of times its not, its just talking to the person

It doesn’t seem very complicated, it doesn’t seem very high-falluting, but it’s as simple as that

But if you combine those things, skill level and I suppose empathy and understanding

People appreciate that and that’s what I try and do
